At Metalsource, we continuously seek to challenge long-standing industry norms with more innovative, more adaptable solutions.
Traditionally, dock stairs have been entirely fabricated, pre-assembled galvanized steel systems. While durable, these units come with inherent challenges: if the stairs are built slightly too high or low, or if the concrete foundation is poured inaccurately, the entire unit may need to be scrapped and rebuilt from scratch. Additionally, their weight necessitates heavy machinery for unloading and installation, adding complexity and cost.
To address these issues, we partnered with our client to offer modular, lightweight aluminum dock stair systems designed to compete with galvanized steel on cost and lead time. These standardized systems can be pulled from inventory and delivered within 1-2 weeks—significantly faster than the typical 3-4 week lead time for steel.
The aluminum stairs come packaged in sections—stairs, platforms, railings, and support legs are shipped loose and bolted together on site. This eliminates the need for heavy lifting equipment and enables two workers to assemble a unit in about an hour. Adjustable leg supports provide flexibility to accommodate minor discrepancies in height or uneven concrete slopes, preventing costly refabrication or foundation rework.
The aluminum option has proven competitive on all fronts important to our customers, including price, lead time, and ease of handling.
We continue to supply these systems for multiple projects, delivering simple, adaptable, and cost-effective dock stair solutions that often outperform traditional galvanized steel.
